ISIS elements confess to burning agricultural crops

Members of an "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) terror network have confessed to receiving orders to set fire to agricultural crops in northern Iraq, Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council said Thursday (June 27th).

"Al-Karkh court, which specialises in terrorism-related cases, is questioning three terrorists who operated as part of ISIS's so-called Wilayat Kirkuk (Kirkuk Province)," council spokesman Judge Abdul Sattar Bayraqadar said in statement.

"The defendants admitted to having taken part in many terrorist attacks in Kirkuk province, and to receiving orders from the so-called 'emir of Kirkuk sector' to set fire to agricultural crops in several areas across the province," he said.

In their confessions, the defendants confirmed that after they received the orders, they prepared the required supplies and tools, which included sticks of incense wrapped with matches to be tossed in dry agricultural areas, he said.

The defendants are wanted for other crimes, Bayraqadar said, adding that the court has recorded their confessions according to article 4 of the anti-terrorism law, he said.
