Senior ISIS militant arrested in Mosul

A senior "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) leader was arrested in a security operation in the city of Mosul, the Iraqi police in Ninawa province said Friday (June 21st).

"A special operations unit from the Ninawa police command arrested Abdullah Amer -- also known as Abu Taif -- who had assumed several positions with ISIS during its occupation of Mosul between 2014 and 2016," Ninawa police chief Brig. Gen. Hamad Namis al-Jubury told Diyaruna.

"The terrorist, who is wanted in connection with several horrific crimes, was arrested based on tips that he had entered the city under an alias and settled in a house in southern Mosul," he said.

The operation was successful thanks to the co-operation of local residents, he said.
