Joint Iraqi forces on Sunday (May 19th) killed 11 "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements during raids in several areas of Salaheddine province, Iraq’s Ministry of Defence said Tuesday.
Iraqi forces, backed by international coalition air power, were conducting an operation in Salaheddine Island, near the border with Kirkuk, "as part of stabilisation efforts in the province", the ministry said in a statement.
Security forces uncovered 13 ISIS hideouts, where they found 16 explosive vests, the ministry said.
Two vehicles packed with explosives were destroyed, along with three tunnels, two bomb-making workshops, nine water tankers and two fuel tankers, it said.
“The joint forces also found tins used in rigging vehicles with explosives, detonation wires, number plates and electronic devices with information on ISIS,” the ministry said, describing the operation as “successful and effective".
