Thousands of narcotic pills seized in Basra

Anti-narcotics police forces in Basra, supported by intelligence units, seized more than 40,000 narcotic pills which had been smuggled into Iraq, the police command announced Wednesday (April 24th).

"Acting on prior intelligence and monitoring, joint forces arrested three suspects at a residential building and found more than 40,000 narcotic pills and other contraband in their possession," Lt. Col. Ahmed al-Saadi of the Basra police command told Diyaruna.

"The suspects, who admitted to smuggling drugs into Iraq, are currently undergoing interrogation," he said, noting that the operation is part of a major crackdown on drug dealing and trafficking in Iraq.
