ISIS element responsible for transporting car bombs into Mosul arrested

An "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) element responsible for transporting car bombs for detonation inside Mosul and its outskirts has been arrested, the Iraqi police in Ninawa province said Thursday (April 18th).

“Joint security forces, in co-ordination with military intelligence units, arrested a dangerous ISIS element who was responsible for securing the car bombs that targeted Abu Layla restaurant in western Mosul [on November 8th],” Ninawa police chief Brig. Gen. Hamad Namis al-Jubury told Diyaruna.

Car bombs facilitated by this element also attacked al-Qayyarah market in southern Mosul and Tal Afar market last year, he said.

“The arrest, which took place in al-Badiya Complex in Baaj, west of Mosul, was made based on a judicial arrest warrant and accurate intelligence about his whereabouts,” he said.

The ISIS element has "admitted to his crimes during initial and judicial interrogations", said al-Jubury.
