Iraqi forces arrest ISIS leader in Heet

A security operation in Anbar's Heet district has netted a senior "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) leader, the Anbar police command said Wednesday (April 10th).

"Joint security forces arrested Nasr al-Nemrawi, an ISIS leader who had served as the emir of the so-called 'al-hesba (religious police) diwan' during ISIS's occupation of several cities in Anbar between 2014 and 2016," Anbar police chief Maj. Gen. Hadi Kassar Erzaij told Diyaruna.

"The detainee was hiding in al-Kasra area on the Euphrates, near Heet, where he fled after the collapse of ISIS," he said, noting that he was using a fake ID.

Al-Nemrawi is wanted on terrorism charges according to article 4 of the anti-terrorism law, Erzaij said.
