Iraqi forces arrest 2 ISIS elements in Kirkuk

Two "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements were arrested in an operation in Kirkuk province on Thursday (January 31st), the Iraqi Ministry of Defence said Friday.

"Federal Police forces in Kirkuk province carried out a search operation in the mountain range, and in the villages of Kenak, al-Mansya and Matiq south-western Kirkuk," it said in a statement.

Two ISIS tunnels and two hideouts containing supplies and explosives were destroyed in the operation, the statement said.

The operation, carried out by joint security forces, is part of a large-scale plan aimed at "clearing rural and mountainous villages in south-western Kirkuk and not allowing ISIS remnants any chance to regroup", said the ministry.
