The Iraqi Federal Police on Wednesday (December 19th) found a mass grave in al-Hawijah, 55 kilometres southwest of Kirkuk city, the police said in a statement.
"During search operations, a police force found a mass grave containing the remains of civilians executed by the 'Islamic State of Iraq and Syria' (ISIS) in al-Hawijah," the statement said.
Security forces sealed off the area and opened an investigation, it said, noting that the necessary legal actions will be taken to help identify the victims.
