Iraqi border guard foils infiltration attempt from Syria

The Iraqi army and Border Guard forces have thwarted an infiltration attempt from Syria by several "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) militants, an Iraqi military spokesman said Wednesday (November 14th).

The militants took advantage of rain and low visibility on the border to attempt to cross into Iraq, Anbar Operations Command spokesman Col. Mohammed al-Dulaimi told Diyaruna.

"At least 10 ISIS militants tried to cross the border towards al-Qaim, but our forces clashed with them, killed two of them and forced the rest to withdraw back into Syria," he said.

Iraqi helicopters then targeted them inside the Syria border strip, destroying a truck they were using and killing several on board, he said, stressing that "Iraqi forces will be on the lookout for any new infiltration attempts."
