533 Iraqi refugees return home from Syria, Turkey

The Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displacement announced Wednesday (October 3rd) the return of 533 Iraqi refugees to their homes from Syria and Turkey.

"In co-operation with security agencies and the Ministry of Transport, officials from the Ministry of Migration and Displacement in Ninawa province were able to return 321 refugees from al-Hawl refugee camp in Syria and transfer them to al-Jadaa camps in southern Mosul," the ministry said in a statement.

A further 212 refugees have returned from Turkey via the Ibrahim al-Khalil crossing in Zakho, Dohuk province, in co-ordination with the UN High Commission for Refugees, the statement said.

The ministry allocated buses and trucks to transport returning families and their furniture, and provided them with food baskets and cold water.

"The next step will be to bring them back to their homes in the areas where they lived before ISIS occupied their towns," it said.
