Iraqi forces dismantle drug trafficking network

A six-member drug trafficking network was busted in a security raid in Baghdad, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said Tuesday (September 25th).

"Security forces arrested a dangerous gang engaged in drug dealing and trafficking in Baghdad," ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Saad Maan told Diyaruna.

Four kilogrammes of drugs and more than 20,000 narcotic pills were found in their possession, he said.

"This is one of the largest networks responsible for dealing in drugs in the capital, and its members are being questioned to identify other links they may have," he said.

"The operation, carried out in New Baghdad, was based on locals’ co-operation and prior intelligence," he said.
