Germany is ready to contribute to rebuilding Syria if a political solution is found for fair elections, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said Friday (September 14th).
"If there is a political solution in Syria that leads to free elections, then we are ready to take on the responsibility of reconstruction," Maas wrote on Twitter.
"It is in our interest for Syria to be a stable country. For that, reconstruction is necessary. And we have an important role in that."
At the same time, Maas also underlined Germany's demand for Russia to get President Bashar al-Assad to back off from a looming major offensive in Idlib, AFP reported.
