360 Iraqis who fled to Syria return home

Hundreds of Iraqis have returned home from al-Hawl refugee camp in Syria’s al-Hasakeh province, Iraq’s Ministry of Migration and Displacement said Tuesday (September 4th).

"In co-operation with the Ministry of Transport and the Iraqi army, we managed to return 360 Iraqis who had fled to Syria when the 'Islamic State of Iraq and Syria' (ISIS) overran Ninawa province in 2014," the ministry said in a statement.

The refugees, who form the third batch of returnees from al-Hawl refugee camp this month, were given temporary shelter at al-Jadaa camps, south of Ninawa, it said.

"The return trip from the Syria border to Ninawa took about 20 hours," the ministry said, adding that the returnees will stay at al-Jadaa camps until they are cleared to return to their homes.
