Syria extremist warns against talks with regime

The head of Tahrir al-Sham on Wednesday (August 22nd) warned opposition factions in Syria’s Idlib against taking part in talks with the regime, AFP reported.

Abu Mohamed al-Jolani spoke after President Bashar al-Assad said he aimed to retake control of the northwestern province, warning fellow extremists and other opposition fighters in the area against handing over their arms in surrender deals with the regime.

The extremist alliance controls around 60% of Idlib, while other opposition groups hold most of the rest. The regime holds a small patch in the province's southeast.

In recent weeks, Tahrir al-Sham and other opposition groups have detained dozens of people, accusing them of collusion with the regime and working towards surrender deals.
