2 Yazidis kidnapped by ISIS freed in Syria

A Yazidi man and woman kidnapped by the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) have been freed in a Syrian city, the head of the Office for Yazidi Abductees Affairs in Duhok said Sunday (July 29th).

"An 18-year old woman and an 18-year old man, natives of Tal Banat, Sinjar, have been rescued," Hussein Qaidi said in a statement.

"The abductees were freed after significant efforts despite the grave, multifaceted challenges on the ground," he said, confirming that the abductees have arrived in the Kurdish region of Iraq.

Since the Office for Yazidi Abductees Affairs was created at the end of 2014, "we have been able to rescue more than half of the Yazidis who had been captured by ISIS terrorists", he said, noting that efforts to rescue the remaining abductees are ongoing.
