Military operation targets vast areas of Anbar's desert

A large-scale military operation was launched from three pivots targeting parts of the Anbar desert all the way to Wadi Huran where "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) remnants are hiding, the Anbar Operations Command said on Monday (July 23rd).

"The army and police forces, supported by the international coalition and Iraqi air force, are carrying out an operation covering the length of 120 kilometres of desert areas in Anbar," commander Maj. Gen. Mahmoud al-Falahi told Diyaruna.

The operation targets ISIS pockets, tunnels and weapons caches, he said.

"An integrated bomb-making workshop containing a rocket launcher, materials used in making explosives and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) set for detonation was found in the operation," he said.
