Iraqi forces uncover ISIS tunnel in Fallujah

Iraqi forces have discovered a tunnel in Fallujah used by "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements as an escape route, the Ministry of Defence said Monday (July 2nd).

The Military Intelligence Directorate’s 14th Division conducted a comb and search operation in al-Shohada al-Ula neighbourhood in Fallujah, where they found an ISIS tunnel under the international highway, ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul said in a statement.

The tunnel was fully destroyed, after the engineering units dismantled the explosives found at the site, he said.

"Iraqi forces found an ammunition cache containing 517 detonators and four improvised explosive devices (IEDs) left behind by ISIS," he noted.
