Iraqi forces nab 5 ISIS elements in Mosul

Five "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements were arrested in a joint operation in western Mosul between Tuesday evening (June 26th) and Wednesday morning, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said.

"A joint force from the Counter-Terrorism Service and Mosul police carried out a surprise and swift operation in western Mosul based on prior intelligence," ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Saad Maan told Diyaruna.

"The operation nabbed five ISIS elements in al-Amel, al-Wehda and Corniche neighbourhoods, including one involved in committing crimes during ISIS's occupation of the city," he added.

"The five had returned among the displaced population," Maan said, noting that they had changed their looks and were using fake names to deceive the security forces.

"However, citizens' co-operation in reporting ISIS members and collaborators has contributed to their arrest," he said.
