Iraqi forces thwart ISIS attack on Syria border

Iraqi forces repelled a large-scale "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) attack on Iraqi army barracks at the Syria border, killing at least 11 ISIS elements, Anbar Operations Command said Thursday (May 17th).

"Iraqi forces fully repelled an attack carried out by 20 to 25 ISIS elements targeting Iraqi army barracks on the Iraqi-Syrian border," Commander Maj. Gen. Mahmoud al-Falahi told Diyaruna.

At least 11 ISIS elements were killed and several others were wounded, he said, adding that there were no casualties among the Iraqi forces.

Iraqi forces also destroyed two four-wheel-drive vehicles and seized weapons belonging to the attackers, he added.
