ISIS kills 5 family members south of Kirkuk

Five members of the same family were killed as their car was stopped at a checkpoint set up by suspected members of the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) on the Baghdad-Kirkuk highway on Sunday (March 11th), an official in Kirkuk province told Diyaruna.

"ISIS elements set up a fake checkpoint on the Baghdad-Kirkuk highway at a late hour last night and stopped a vehicle carrying a family consisting of a man, his wife, his brother and two sons," Maj. Sanan Fadhel al-Khaledi, deputy chief of Highway Police in Kirkuk, said on Monday.

The extremists "shot the five people dead after forcing them out of the car", he said.

"The terrorists burnt the car and left the bodies on the road," he added, noting that "the bodies were transferred to the Forensic Medicine Department and a large-scale investigation was opened in search of the perpetrators".
