Baghdad police bust human trafficking gang

A human trafficking gang was arrested in an ambush in Baghdad on Sunday (March 4th), the Iraqi Interior Ministry said Monday.

"Members of a gang specialising in human trafficking were arrested in a police ambush as they tried to sell a 17-year old girl for $7,000 in Baghdad's al-Dora," the ministry’s Inspector-General Office said in a statement.

The arrests by a security unit with the Baghdad Inspection Directorate were made based on intelligence provided to the Inspector General, the statement said.

The gang was trying to sell the girl for the purpose of "exploiting her in prostitution and human trafficking", it said.
