Over 600 families return to al-Qaim

Iraq’s Ministry of Migration and Displacement announced Thursday (March 1st) that 618 displaced families have returned home in al-Qaim, western Anbar.

The families have returned "to their original areas in al-Qaim from the al-Khalediya and Kilo 18 camps", the ministry’s Anbar director Mohammed Rasheed said in a press conference.

"The families, together with their belongings and furniture, were transported by buses and trucks free of charge," he said.

"The ministry is about to complete the transport of remaining displaced people to Anbar’s cities, as security forces and municipal teams clean their areas of 'Islamic State of Iraq and Syria' [ISIS] remnants," he said.

The ministry has distributed in-kind assistance, including 2,000 blankets, 1,000 pillows, and 500 mattresses to displaced families in al-Habbaniya Tourist City where camps were damaged by heavy rain, he said.
