80 wanted ISIS elements arrested in Ninawa

Iraqi forces apprehended 80 wanted "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements in various operations conducted last week in Mosul, al-Qayyarah, Tal Afar and Ninawa Valley, the Ninawa Operations Command said Monday (February 26th).

"Acting on tips provided by locals, joint Iraqi forces carried out pre-emptive operations and arrested 80 terrorists wanted for operating for ISIS when it controlled the province," commander Nejm Eddin Karim al-Jubury told Diyaruna.

"The detainees include some 30 senior ISIS elements who used aliases and hid among returning displaced people, but locals reported them," he said.

Weapons and information found on their cell phones and laptops were seized, he said, noting that security and military leaders have been heavily relying on intelligence efforts and tips by residents to round up any remaining ISIS elements in the province.
