Iraqi forces busted three organised crime networks on the second day of a large-scale security campaign aimed at enforcing law and order in Basra, a senior Basra police official told Diyaruna on Thursday (February 22nd).
"Three networks -- one involved in drug trafficking and smuggling, and two involved in murders, armed robberies, burglaries targeting homes and cars, and kidnappings for extortion -- have been busted," said Col. Mohammed Nasser al-Fatlawi of Basra police command.
A total of 32 people have so far been arrested in the operation, he said, noting that police and army forces also seized large quantities of unlicensed weapons and ammunition.
