ISIS cell dismantled east of Fallujah

A five-member "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) terror cell has been dismantled in an operation by Iraqi special forces in eastern Fallujah, the interior ministry said Thursday (February 1st).

"In a raid carried out this morning, Counter-Terrorism Service forces dismantled a terror cell at a farm in eastern Fallujah, which [ISIS elements] were using as a hideout," ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Saad Maan told Diyaruna.

"The cell consists of five terrorists, including one who has been wanted for years," he said.

Villagers in the area helped uncover the hideout, Maan said, noting that various weapons and explosives were also seized from the location.

"The terrorists include two elements who had carried out heinous massacres against civilians in Fallujah when they occupied the city a few years ago," he said.
