Iraqi forces to clear Salaheddine of ISIS mines

Iraqi forces and military engineering teams on Wednesday (January 31st) began a campaign to remove "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) explosives from parts of Salaheddine province, the Salaheddine Operations Command said.

The teams will work to remove explosive remnants of war from Yathreb, Solyaman Bek, Baiji, al-Tuz and Yakjah, Col. Hussein Ayoub told Diyaruna.

"The campaign is part of a large-scale plan to restore [normal] life to those areas and bring residents back home," he said.

ISIS left behind thousands of landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), barrels of explosives, weapons and projectiles, he said, noting that families cannot enter cities until these are removed.
