Iraqi forces arrest ISIS terror cell in Fallujah

A four-member "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) cell was busted in a pre-emptive police operation in Fallujah Tuesday evening (January 23rd), Anbar police chief Maj. Gen. Hadi Kassar Erzaij said on Wednesday.

The cell, known as the Abu Qatada cell, was recently involved in bomb attacks against civilians and security personnel, as well as extortion, he told Diyaruna.

"The police operation took place during a carefully-planned ambush in Jubail neighbourhood, south of Fallujah, after a businessman informed the authorities he was threatened by the cell members to pay $100,000 or else he would be killed," he said.

"The businessman was asked to continue to contact the terror cell by phone and agree on a place to hand them the money, where they were all arrested on Tuesday evening," he added.

"The defendants admitted to several crimes, and they were taken into custody pending their referral to court," Erzaij said.
