Iraqi forces thwart ISIS infiltration from Syria

Joint Iraqi forces on Wednesday (December 20th) thwarted an infiltration attempt by five "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) gunmen from Syria, the Anbar Operations Command said.

"Iraqi forces at an early hour Wednesday thwarted an infiltration attempt by five gunmen carrying machine guns and hand grenades who wanted to cross the border sand barrier between Iraq and Syria," commander Maj. Gen. Mahmoud al-Falahi told Diyaruna.

"Our forces engaged the gunmen after they refused to surrender and killed three of them, while two others fled back into Syria," he said.

Monitoring and surveillance operations have thwarted two similar infiltration attempts this week, he said.
