Iraqi forces advance against ISIS in western Anbar

Iraqi forces have recaptured several villages and military bases from the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) as they advance on the group's last strongholds of al-Qaim and Rawa in western Anbar.

“Iraqi forces have liberated al-Hasa and al-Jabab areas, as well as six vital facilities in the vicinity of al-Qaim, and al-Qaim train station,” Anbar Operations Commander Maj. Gen. Mahmoud al-Falahi said Friday (October 27th).

Eight villages south of the Euphrates also have been liberated, he told Diyaruna.

“Battles are under way with the enemy, which is using car bombs and suicide bombers in an attempt to stop our advance,” he added.

Iraqi forces killed 32 ISIS fighters in Friday battles, he said, and have now reached the Rawa intersection -- the gateway to the centre of the town.
