French ISIS fighter’s mother jailed for sending him cash

A French woman whose son fought in the ranks of the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) in Syria was given a two-year jail sentence for financing terrorism on Thursday (September 28th) because she sent him money, AFP reported.

Nathalie Haddadi, 43, insisted she did not know how her son, Belabbas Bounaga, spent the money she wired to him.

Haddadi said she paid for her son -- who had been barred from leaving France -- to fly to Algeria to be with his father in November 2015.

She said she had informed the authorities her son had been radicalised while in jail for drug offences.

Haddadi also was accused of hiding her son's passport from the authorities.

She said she sent him 2,800 euros ($3,300) after he was mugged while travelling in Malaysia.

Prosecutors said he left Malaysia for Syria where he joined ISIS.

In August 2016, Haddadi received a phone call informing her of her son's death.

Haddadi's lawyer said she would appeal the verdict.
