Police dismantle human trafficking network in Baghdad

A 23-member human trafficking network involved in kidnapping and selling children and trading in their organs was dismantled in Baghdad this week, the Iraqi ministry of interior said Friday (August 11th).

"Following weeks-long monitoring, a special operations force dismantled one of the most dangerous networks engaged in kidnapping, human trafficking and trading in human organs," ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Saad Maan told Diyaruna.

Special forces raided two buildings belonging to the criminal network in eastern and western Baghdad, Maan said.

"Security forces freed a number of victims, mostly children, and arrested 23 members of the network, including 18 non-Iraqi women residing in Baghdad," he said.
