A joint army-police operation in Hamrin Mountains, northern Tikrit, has fully cleared the area of "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) presence, Tigris Operations Commander Lt. Gen. Muzhir al-Azzawi said Wednesday (August 9th).
The two-day operation ended on Wednesday morning "with a major victory", he said at a press conference in Diyala province.
Joint Iraqi forces destroyed ISIS's sites and weapons and ammunition caches in the area, and killed a number of the group's elements, he said.
They also controlled "the whole area from Diyala province up to the Kirkuk border, a total of 90 kilometres", al-Azzawi said.
"ISIS terrorists no longer have any power in that area," he said.
