Iraq removes 3 tonnes of explosives from Mosul

Iraqi teams combing Mosul for "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) war remnants have so far removed three tonnes of explosives, live ammunition and rockets, Iraq's Joint Operations Command said Thursday (July 27th).

"Iraqi forces have fully cleared five residential neighbourhoods, dismantling dozens of houses, shops and buildings rigged with explosives as well as booby-trapped vehicles," command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.

They also have removed landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from the streets, and dismantled explosives from the Nimrud historical church without causing it any damages, he said.

"Some three tonnes of explosives have been removed from those neighbourhoods this week alone," Rasul said.
