Iraqi forces target ISIS militants hiding in Mosul tunnels

The Iraqi army is hunting down extremists who remain hiding in Mosul's Old City after the city was declared liberated from the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) last week.

Several ISIS elements who were hiding in tunnels in the Old City have been killed, Ninawa operations commander Lt. Gen. Abdul Ameer Rashid Yarallah said Tuesday (July 18th).

"While searching al-Shahwani and al-Qaliyat areas, Iraqi forces found small groups of ISIS militants hiding under the ground in tunnels and dens," Yarallah told Diyaruna.

The militants were killed in clashes with Iraqi forces, he said.

"Combing operations, searches and removal of ISIS remnants are part of the 100-day plan to bring displaced people back to their homes," he said.
