The number of "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements who have voluntarily surrendered to the Iraqi army in Diyala over the past 72 hours has reached 17, the Tigris Operations Command announced on Thursday (July 13th).

"Three wanted terrorists affiliated with ISIS have surrendered today to the army forces in al-Makhisa, north-east of Diyala," command spokesman Lt. Gen. Muzhir al-Azzawi said in a press conference.

"This brings the total number of terrorists who have surrendered to the security forces in Diyala in the last 72 hours to 17," he said.

The detainees were transferred to security detention facilities for interrogation, before being referred to the courts for trial, al-Azzawi said.
