Iraq army repels ISIS attack on Syria border

The Iraqi army repelled an attack by "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements using vehicles packed with explosives on the Syria border, the Iraqi Ministry of Defence said Thursday (June 15th).

"Iraqi forces repelled and completely thwarted a surprise attack launched by ISIS this morning," the ministry said in a statement.

"ISIS militants used three vehicles packed with explosives with a number of infiltrators to target our units stationed along the Iraqi-Syrian border," the statement said.

"The Iraqi army's air force helped repel the attack by blowing up the three vehicles and killing all 13 infiltrators," it said.
