ISIS loses more ground in west Mosul

Iraqi forces battling the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) in western Mosul have liberated three new sites in the Old City area on Wednesday (June 7th), Iraq's Joint Operations Command said.

"Iraqi forces have retaken al-Forn, al-Khaski, and al-Lejan in al-Zanjili neighbourhood, cutting down the area [of west Mosul] controlled by ISIS to just 4%," command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.

"The battle will be resolved in a few days," he said.

ISIS leader Hameed Ahmed, also known as Abu Humam al-Iraqi, was killed Wednesday in an international coalition airstrike, he said, while 16 other extremists were killed in direct confrontations with the army.
