Iraqi forces liberate al-Najjar neighbourhood in Mosul

The "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) is now confined to an ever-shrinking area of Mosul's Old City after Iraqi forces completed the liberation of al-Najjar neighbourhood on Wednesday (May 24th).

Joint forces "have fully besieged al-Nouri Mosque, the [al-Hadbaa] minaret and Baghdad Garage, and set up barricades around them to prevent ISIS terrorists from fleeing", Joint Operations Command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.

"ISIS now controls less than 5% of western Mosul," he said.

"At least 36 terrorists have been killed in today’s battles," Rasul said, noting that international coalition fighter jets targeted a paint workshop used by ISIS as a headquarters, and blew up rigged vehicles that were hidden inside.
