ISIS loses al-Warshan neighbourhood in west Mosul

Iraqi forces have expelled the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) from al-Warshan neighbourhood in western Mosul and are now advancing towards one of the group's last strongholds, an area between al-Refai and al-Rabie neighbourhoods, Counter-Terrorism Service Chief Lt. Gen. Abdul Ghani al-Assadi told Diyaruna.

"Iraqi forces inflicted heavy losses on ISIS, killing more than 40 of its elements, while international coalition fighter jets shelled two vehicles packed with explosives before they could reach our joint forces," he said.

"ISIS now controls about 5% only of the total area of Mosul," al-Assadi said.

Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to evacuate Iraqi families from the liberated areas of the city, he added.
