New operation kicks off in Maysan to restrict use of weapons

The Iraqi army launched a new operation in the southern province of Maysan that aims to restrict the possession of weapons to the state, the commander of the army’s al-Rafidain Operations Command, Maj. Gen. Ali al-Maksousi, said on Wednesday May (3rd).

"Operation Lion Leap is aimed at supporting and establishing law and order, cracking down on outlaws and wanted individuals, weapons and drugs dealers, bringing them to justice, collecting weapons from citizens and attempting to put an end to tribal conflicts," al-Maksousi said in a joint press conference with senior Iraqi security leaders.

"I urge the citizens of Maysan to support the security forces and help them establish law and order," he said.

May Allah bless you, o, noble commander! Hit with an iron first the terrorist groups who have no aim but to hurt Iraq. There are some tribes who have repeatedly breached the law. You should give priority to getting rid of them; they’re drug and arms dealers, real estate brokers, forgers and traders who receive usury. They’re gangs who have seized the border crossing and the [gibberish] of Chinese companies in al-Halfaya. Don’t be lenient in truth, and you should have your own mark on Maysan to be recorded in history. Many greetings to you because you’re our hope.
