New military operation kicks off in Salaheddine

A large-scale military operation kicked off in Salaheddine province to liberate Mutaybija, east of Tikrit, from the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), the Iraqi Ministry of Defence said Wednesday (April 26th).

"A military operation kicked off at 5 a.m. Wednesday to clear Mutaybija and surrounding areas," the ministry said in a statement.

The Samarra, Salaheddine and Tigris operations commands, in co-ordination with the Diyala and Salaheddine police commands took part in the operation which was supported by the army’s air component and the air force, the statement said.

"Clear progress has been made against ISIL in the early hours of the operation," it said.
