Iraqi forces liberate 12 villages in Mosul

Joint Iraqi forces have liberated 12 villages south-west of Mosul in battles over the past two days, Ninawa Operations Commander Lt. Gen. Abdul Ameer Rashid Yarallah said Wednesday (April 26th).

"Our forces have liberated 12 villages west of Mosul -- al-Musaltan, Albu Elwan, Dabsa, al-Khnaifes, Tal Helala, Tal Rajim al-Athari, al-Athuri, al-Howaidar, Salal, Olaiba, Olaiba al-Sharqiya and Olaiba al-Gharbiya," he said, adding that they raised the Iraqi flag on them.

"The area which the 'Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant' [ISIL] now controls in western Mosul has shrunk to less than 30%," he told Diyaruna.

"ISIL has suffered heavy losses," he said, noting that the "international coalition also shelled vital ISIL targets and inflicted heavy losses on the group".
