Iraqi rack up more successes in Mosul

Iraqi forces on Friday (March 24th) have retaken the Karaj area in the vicinity of western Mosul's Old City, and fully recaptured the industrial street area on the outskirts of al-Abar neighbourhood, Ninawa Operations Commander Lt. Gen. Abdul Ameer Rashid Yarallah told Diyaruna.

"Our forces have also killed 12 'Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant' (ISIL) gunmen, including four foreigners, in today’s battles," he said.

In spite of the continued rain and bad weather, Iraqi joint forces are proceeding with their attacks on ISIL sites with aerial support from the international coalition, he said.

A coalition airstrike on Thursday killed a senior ISIL leader and two of his aides, the Counter-Terrorism Service said in a statement.

"International coalition fighter jets launched an airstrike targeting Abu Obaida, a senior ISIL terrorist, near Baha al-Din Mosque in al-Najjar neighbourhood in western Mosul, killing him and two of his aides," the statement said.
