Iraqi forces have made more progress in west Mosul liberating two new neighbourhoods from the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), a senior military official said Thursday (March 9th).
Iraqi troops "have liberated al-Mualemeen neighbourhood and the Silo area and have raised the Iraqi flag on their buildings", Ninawa operations commander Lt. Gen. Abdul Ameer Rashid Yarallah said in a brief statement.
Clearing operations have now been launched to clear the liberated areas of any war remnants and explosives, the statement said.
Meanwhile, large-scale operations are under way in the west and north-west of Mosul to liberate Nablus neighbourhood, Col. Saadoun al-Jurani of the Iraqi army told Diyaruna.
"We have seized many weapons and documents left behind by ISIL," he said.
