Iraqi forces liberate new parts of west Mosul

Iraqi forces on Wednesday (March 8th) liberated new areas in western Mosul from the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), the Joint Iraqi Operations Command told Diyaruna.

The Iraqi ground operations received large-scale support from international coalition fighter jets and advisors, the command said.

“Iraqi forces now control half of western Mosul, and are still making progress,” Joint Iraqi Operations Command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahiya al-Zubaidi told Diyaruna.

Iraqi forces on Wednesday recaptured Tal Khazaf, al-Sakaniya and al-Wahda and have completed the liberation of Bab al-Toob, al-Zubaidi said.

"ISIL has suffered heavy losses in assets and lives in the ongoing battles,” he said, adding that he anticipates that the liberation of al-Mansour neighbourhood will be completed today.
