An "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) rocket attack targeting a school in eastern Mosul on Thursday (February 16th) killed two female students, the Iraqi police in Ninawa province told Diyaruna.
"Three rockets were launched on al-Khansa School in al-Jazaer neighbourhood in central eastern Mosul, killing two students and wounding six others, and seriously wounding their teacher," said Lt. Col. Ahmed Hamid al-Obaidi of the Mosul police.
"ISIL repeatedly shells schools in a bid to prevent the return of life to normalcy in liberated areas," he told Diyaruna.
This is the second such attack on a school in eastern Mosul in one week.
"International coalition fighter jets are monitoring rocket launchers on the other bank of the Tigris where ISIL is based, and have actually destroyed a number of these launchers," he added.
