Iraqi forces thwart ISIL attack on Kubaysa

Iraqi forces foiled an "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) attack targeting the town of Kubaysa on Tuesday evening (January 10th), the Anbar Operations Command said Wednesday.

"The army with support from the tribes have thwarted a large-scale attack launched by ISIL on Kubaysa," Anbar operations commander Maj. Gen. Ismail al-Mahalawi told Diyaruna.

"Iraqi forces inflicted heavy losses on ISIL, killing at least 30 terrorists and wounding others," he said.

The other attackers fled, but international coalition fighter jets chased them down in Anbar desert, targeting their vehicles and killing many of them, he added.
