Iraqi forces retook a series of villages from the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) in western Iraq near the Syrian border one day after the launch of military operations to clear Upper Euphrates areas of ISIL pockets, the Joint Operations Command said Friday (January 6th).
"Following violent battles with ISIL terrorists, joint Iraqi forces and tribesmen liberated seven villages located between Haditha and Anah, in western Anbar," Command spokesman Yahya al-Zubaidi told Diyaruna.
"Iraqi forces raised the Iraqi flag on the liberated villages and removed ISIL flags," he said.
The liberated villages are al-Dosa, al-Akhdar, al-Jams, Tal Asfar, al-Safa, Wadi Obaid and al-Til.
