Iraq arrests 3 accused of registering cars for ISIL

Three men involved in the registration of vehicles belonging to the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) were arrested in Baghdad, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said Monday (January 2nd).

"Security forces have arrested three men on the charge of registering vehicles belonging to ISIL using forged documents in co-operation with officers and personnel in the Traffic Department," the ministry said in a statement.

"The arrests were made based on information received by the Ministry’s Inspector-General’s office," it said.

The sources said that several individuals were involved in the registration of licensed and unlicensed vehicles using illegal means and in co-operation with Traffic Department officers and personnel, in return for money, the statement added.

"Those involved have been arrested, and sums of money and forged documents have been seized in their possession," the ministry said.
