ISIL executes photojournalist in Mosul

The "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) has executed Iraqi photojournalist Hashem Fares in central Mosul, the Iraqi Journalist Freedoms Observatory said Monday (December 12th).

"ISIL executed our colleague Fares on Saturday evening," Observatory director in Erbil, Khalid Darbendi, said in a statement .

"Fares has previously worked for al-Diyar satellite TV and other local newspapers," the statement said, adding that "the charge made by the group against him was not specified".

ISIL has executed many journalists, intellectuals and activists in the past under the pretext of collaborating with government authorities or inciting people to confront the radical group.
